The Harrington Retractor offers multiple benefits for general surgeons. These benefits play an important role during exploration.
For example, the retractor has a flat shaft that arches backward. Therefore, it projects forward into the blade. The resulting curve has a slight grade of flexibility that decreases pressure when performing forcible retractions.
Besides, the blade is resilient and has the shape of a heart. For that reason, the retractor is also known as sweetheart retractor. This feature allows surgeons to hold onto tissues and prevents puncture or hemorrhage.
